Series Ferociores A. Beek

Series Ferociores A. Beek

The series Viatici A. Beek = Series Subsylvatici  (Focke) Focke as considered until now is not homogeneous. A part of the species are not very glandular and have rather equal prickles, while other taxa have many long stalked glands and unequal prickles, especially in the inflorescence. The latter are often closer to the series Subradula than to the typical Viatici. Therefore a separate series has been formed for these: the Ferociores A. Beek.

Ferociores A. Beek, Gorteria 36: 93 (2014).

The species of this series differ from the Viatici by more unequal prickles and stalked glands on the primocane but even more by abundant long stalked glands and unequal prickels in the inflorescence. They differ from the series Subradulae because the glands and prickles on the primocane are not so consistantly abundant and unequal and the glands in the inflorescence are, though abundant and long stalked, less unequal. The position of the Ferociores can be compared with that of the Grandifolii, Micantes and Anisacanthi in the section Rubus.
